Message from the President Dear fellow residents,
The month of April is turning out to be a very busy month for our
Civic Trust. Our President Rod Best has now moved from Beecroft to the
inner west, so as Vice President I have stepped up to be President until
our Annual General Meeting. Carol Liston has kindly replaced Rod
as Chair of the Beecroft Cheltenham History Group
Last week we held our 60th
Anniversary afternoon tea with Graham Ross, accompanied by Sandra, as
guest speaker. Over 90 people attended the informal event and
provided the opportunity for our numerous local groups to come together
and share memories of past events but more importantly to discuss hopes
and ideas for the future.
On a personal note, I have the rather unenviable honour of having been a
Trust committee member for over thirty years, equating to close to half
of the Trust’s existence. Subsequently I have worked with numerous
presidents. I will simply say that our local community has been very
fortunate to have Rod and Louise, so actively involved in our community,
for the past 20 years. Both will be greatly missed.
The announcement of the Federal election to be held on May 3 has made it
extremely difficult for the Trust to identify an appropriate date in
April on which to hold our traditional ‘Meet the Candidates’
event. Reluctantly, we are forced to cancel the public
meeting. Instead, we will offer residents the opportunity to
submit pertinent questions through the Trust. The Trust will then
forward a selection of these questions, in a collated form, to all
of the registered Candidates. Below In this eNews is a link for
you to submit your questions. We will share the Candidates'
responses in our next eNews and on our website before election day.
Finally please remember to vote either on Saturday May 6 or
beforehand. Details of the candidates and the 2022 election
results can be accessed CLICK HERE.
Beecroft Cheltenham Civic Trust 60th Anniversary High Tea The Trust's Anniversary High Tea, held at the Cheltenham Recreation Club was a well attended success. The guest speaker Graham Ross AM VMM FAIH
provided a very informative talk about the environmental qualities of
our two suburbs. Graham went into some detail about how he ‘discovered
our suburbs’ special qualities and why he and Sandra moved here so many
years ago.
ANZAC Day Beecroft Rotary will once again this year be organising the ANZAC day memorial service commencing at 3PM.
More details can be found on the Rotary web site CLICK HERE. 2024 ANZAC day service
Cheltenham Girls High School The
Civic Trust has achieved a good result for the Cheltenham Girls High
School by advocating on the schools behalf for the repair and upgrade to
the girls' toilet facilities.
A letter from Greg Warren MP, confirming the upgrade can be viewed by CLICKING HERE
Beecroft Cheltenham Civic Trust AGM The
Trust will be holding its annual general meeting on Thursday May 29 at
7.30 PM at the Beecroft Presbyterian Church Hall, Welham Street,
Beecroft.
Please help keep our suburbs strong by attending this AGM to support your Civic Trust.
Please also consider joining the Trust Committee.
The committee meets for one hour each month to steer the activities of the Trust.
We will have a guest speaker at this event, Professor Sebastian Pfautsch;
Professor Pfautsch is a professor of Urban Planning and Management and
Co-Lead in People-centred Sustainable Precinct Design at the Urban
Transformations Research Centre at Western Sydney University.
Questions to be put to Federal candidates before the Federal election. Because
there is insufficient time to hold a "Meet the Candidates" event, the
Trust on behalf of the community will submit a list of questions to our
local candidates.
If there are specific questions you would like answered, submit your questions through the Trust by CLICKING HERE.
